Vaccinations
The most common vaccinations are for Equine Influenza and Tetanus.
The primary course consists of two vaccinations:
Once the primary course has been completed the horse is able to compete, however, if the horse does not have its first booster the course is not complete and therefore will have to start again.
After the first booster has been given the horse will require a vaccination annually, unless competing. Currently the Equine Influenza guidelines for horses that are competing state that the horse or pony will require a booster every 6 months but this has to be given 7 days prior to the competition.
Compulsory Microchipping
A new law has introduced requiring horse owners to microchip their animals to prevent abuse and improve welfare. From October 2020 it will be mandatory for all owners to microchip their horses, ponies, and donkeys.
